Angelica Lopez & Papayera is a powerful and unique London-based Colombian folk band with a contemporary edge. Their repertoire is strongly influenced by music from Colombia's Atlantic coast and inspired by artists such as Joe Arroyo, Toto La Momposina and Carlos Vives, playing rhythms such as cumbia, champeta, fandango and porro.

La Papayera's concerts also include rhythms from the country’s rich musical heritage like the pasillo, currulao, and llanera. Their energetic performances have graced stages at WOMAD Festival, The Royal Albert Hall supporting the Buena Vista Social Club, Shepherds Bush Empire with Bacilos and Colombian singer Andrés Cepeda, London’s Latin festival El Carnaval del Pueblo, Barbican’s Another World is Possible Weekend, Beyond El Dorado at The British Museum and various UK festivals.

The full line-up features the charismatic and strong vocals of band leader Angelica Lopez, and the band is comprised of UK-based Latin musicians including BBC World Routes Academy winner and vallenato accordion player José Hernando Noguera, musical director and gaita virtuoso Rafael Sarmiento, saxophonist and clarinet player Luis Moncada, Venezuelan master conguero Wilmer Sifontes, Juan Carlos Arenas or Javier Fioramonti on guitar, Adolfredo Pulido on bass, Emeris Solis and Nickolai Rodriguez on Colombian percussion and one of Britain’s finest Latin drummers and timbalero Jimmy LeMessurier.
